January has given us our share of snow and winter! Lots of school closings so that means days will be made up the end of May. I am hoping that Punxatawney Phil will NOT see his shadow on Tuesday. We still haven't gotten together for our "Christmas" due to all the icky weather! My daughter-in-law did make it back safely.

My brain is tired so this is all you're going to get tonight. Maybe tomorrow my mind will be more receptive to blogging!beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-78843048738603002052010-01-01T01:44:00.002-06:002010-01-01T01:51:05.359-06:00HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!Here it is 2010! I am going to try to keep this blog sort of up to date. I'm not going to promise anything but to just to really try! We had a snowy Christmas and our kids didn't make it home so we had a quiet Christmas in the midst of a blizzard! But no worries - we were safe and warm! We are planning on MKL weekend to celebrate Christmas with the kids. Hopefully they can both get here, no more blizzards! This is short because of the late hour so will do my best to keep this up!

~Beckbeckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-28343872539359416692009-09-10T17:33:00.003-06:002009-09-10T17:46:18.469-06:00It's Getting Closer to Christmas! We have had a terrific summer! Our son's in-laws made their first trip to the USA. They are from England and had some reservations about visiting but before the trip had ended, they were talking about coming back next summer! We made a trek to the Black Hills and did ALL the tourist things including WALL DRUG! There was even time for a trip to Wyoming and Devils Tower! We did some house renovations in preparation for their visit so I hope if they come again next summer we can renovate the bathroom! It really needs a big face-lift!

School has started and I'm working 4 days a week. I have Fridays off and I really look forward to sleeping in! It also gives me an extra day to do planning.

Global warming - our summer has been VERY cool and this winter is predicted to be VERY cold, so I don't know that I can believe in global warming. My husband was hoping for a very hot and humid summer for the corn to ripen and he's still waiting!

Tomorrow is the 8th anniversary of 9-11. Keep all the families that lost loved ones in your prayers. Fly your flag and be proud of our wonderful United States of America. The Star Spangled Banner still flies high and mighty over the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-22466487166290638222008-11-30T19:53:00.002-06:002008-11-30T19:59:26.167-06:00Ready For ChristmasThanksgiving is over and our son and daughter-in-law are back in Iowa. We're going to North Dakota for Christmas with our daughter so I'm not putting up all the Christmas decor that I usually do. My mother-in-law made me a ceramic Christmas tree that lights up so I will put that out and a few other favorite decorations.
We had snow today but not a lot, just enough to make things messy. Hopefully it won't get cold enough to freeze tonight. I have to make my trek out to the country tomorrow morning for my Mon-Wed family and I like nice dry roads!
Let's remember that Christ is a big part of Christmas and Jesus is the reason for every Christmas season!!!beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-70409392658847266912008-11-11T19:22:00.003-06:002008-11-30T19:53:16.823-06:00Let's All Keep PrayingConsidering the outcome of our presidential election, we still need to keep praying! Pray that our new president will allow our God in Heaven to guide and direct him.

Today is Veteran's Day and we need to remember all our military heroes that gave their lives for our safety and freedom. Also keep praying for all our active military who are also keeping us safe and free.

Precious Lord, take my hand...beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-64546517552572721532008-10-31T15:44:00.001-06:002008-10-31T15:44:56.257-06:00BOO!!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!
beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-41603397929138915152008-10-07T22:27:00.001-06:002008-10-07T22:30:09.573-06:00One Minute Each NightOne Minute Each Night.....
This is the scariest election, we as Christians have ever faced, and from the looks of the polls, Christians aren't voting Christian value. We all need to be on our knees.
Do you believe we can take God at His word? Call upon His name, then stand back and watch His wonders to behold. Scripture gives us, as Christians, ownership of this land and the ability to call upon God to heal it. I challenge you to do so. We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land.
This election is the scariest I remember in my lifetime. 2 Chronicles 7:14...'If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.'
During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England , it's people and peace. This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped. There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America .
The United States of America and our citizens need prayer more than ever!!!
If you would like to participate, each evening at 9:00 P.M Eastern Time, 8:00 P.M. Central Time, 7:00 P.M Mountain Time 6:00 P. M. Pacific Time..... stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States , our Troops, our Citizens, for peace in the world, the upcoming election, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land and that Christianity will grow in the USA .
If you know any who would like to participate, please pass this along. Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.
Thank you. Please pass this on to anyone you think will want to join us.God Bless You!!!beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-45566768929634681292008-08-08T18:52:00.002-06:002008-08-08T19:02:29.890-06:00I'm Back!!!It's been hot here and our air conditioner has been running steadily. I thank God for that every day. Our neighbors of over 15 years moved to Idaho and boy do we miss them! The new residents haven't moved in yet so it's strangely dark and quiet over there. School is going to start in a couple of weeks so our humble city will be jolted back to routine again. Stay away from the high school area at 3:15 as that's when school is dismissed and those kids come roaring out of the parking lots and tear down the streets!

"The unexpected courtesy, the thoughtful, kindly deed,
A hand reached out to help us when we find ourselves in need -
Oh, make us more aware, dear God, of little daily graces
That come to us with sweet surprise from never-dreamed-of places." -Helen Steiner Ricebeckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-16430195231287326542008-07-24T17:26:00.002-06:002008-07-24T20:31:56.522-06:00It's Been Too Long!I was going to stay on task with this blog but as you can tell I haven't been doing that. It's been a dreary month and I hope that the months that follow will be brighter and cheerier. There's been a lot going on that will hopefully resolve itself eventually.
I guess that's all I have to say right now so I'll close.

"Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot." It was outside at a place called "A Friend's House". They have wonderful accommodations for outdoor weddings but nothing in case of inclimate weather. We all sat outside in the rain, got soaking wet but did get inside the barn for the reception. This is definitely a wedding that we won't forget!

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, our Independance Day! Our son and his wife (she's from England) are coming tonight to spend the holiday with us. She is very excited as this is the first time she's celebrated this holiday. As you can guess, the British don't acknowledge July 4th as anything special. We will be going to our local lake for the fireworks tomorrow evening.

Just a short word about our upcoming presidential election. Remember to vote for the candidate based on what kind of plan is outlined. Everyone is talking about "change" and we need to know what this "change" is going to be. "Change" needs to be explained. Tune in to Bill O'Reilly for a fair and balanced look at politics.

Tomorrow, the 4th of July, OUR Independance Day, celebrate it and remember our "HEROES" that are fighting to keep us free! Freedom comes at a price, freedom IS NOT free. We have to fight for it! Patrick Henry once said, "United we stand, divided we fall." We need to stick together and defend our country for us and all our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. God Bless America, land that I love, God Bless America OUR home sweet home.beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-45423258976641981352008-06-16T22:31:00.002-06:002008-06-16T22:45:11.254-06:00It's Been HOW LONG???!!!The past 6-8 weeks we have had rain and rain and rain! It started early and went on until after dark. Schools were closed, roads were closed, almost everything was closed. It 's wet and heavy so it will melt quickly, today it's 45 degrees and you can really see it go. I'll post pictures.

I turned 60 this month and I really don't feel like it. I woke up that morning and it felt just like any other morning so I got up and got going! It is true that you are only as old as you feel.

My daughter's surgery was postponed. She developed strep to her surgery is now on May 21.

Not much else going on. Our snow is quickly melting so I suppose our spring flowers will be up and at 'em soon. Then yard work starts:-( and the mower comes out. It is good excersize but oh so hot in the summer!

Remember that tomorrow is Sunday! I'll see you in church!

PUSH and FROGbeckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-80089866812588329202008-04-06T15:38:00.002-06:002008-04-06T15:49:49.235-06:00Are We In For Another Storm...It's Snowing!!!Just watching it snow, big wet sloppy flakes, probably won't even stick but it's making everything a wet mess! Our last 4 days have been nice and warm, around 65 degrees. What a downer this is.

This is one of those lazy days when you just want to wrap up in a blankie and veg! No energy at all. I've watched Les Miserables a couple of times, it's got such good music! Wish I could see it in London in the Royal Albert Hall with the original London cast. Colm Wilkinson and Philip Quast put on a wonderful preformance!

I've switched to Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder and then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp is on next. There's such a difference between the two shows. The Gene Wilder on is FUN and the Johnny Depp on is on the dark side.

Still snowing so I'll just cuddle up more and hunker down for more tv!

Rest in the Lord!beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-84857575161330749132008-03-26T15:18:00.002-06:002008-03-26T15:30:49.009-06:00It's Been A Long Time!Since my last post we have been to Iowa to visit our son and daughter-in-law, to North Dakota to visit our daughter and back to Iowa for Easter. We got snowed in in Iowa for a day but did make it home safely. There was more snow in North Dakota. We went to Grand Forks to a Fighting Sioux vs St. Cloud hockey game. It was a tie but a very good game. The Engelstad Arena is marvelous!

We spent Easter in Iowa last year and again this year. My daughter-in-law and I went shopping on Saturday and had a super time. We didn't buy much but had a grand time just looking around. We had ham for Easter dinner and everyone ate way too much!

Upon arriving at home, we were greeted by a leaking hot water heater. We now have a brand new one that does not leak.

There is more snow in our forecast and we just lost what we had. Yes, I guess it is spring as the snow keeps falling.

A smile is a language understood by all persons.beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-17793742755299679402008-02-06T13:59:00.000-06:002008-02-06T14:13:38.095-06:00Has it been that long...Wow, didn't realize that it had been over a month since my last entry! Well, my daughter-in-law is here, legally with a social security # and a green card. It took a year but at least she won't be sent back to England! We're planning to visit them the end of this month and we'll probably be there for Easter, too.

Our weather has been cold and with the gas prices up we're spending a small fortune on heat. At least we're warm.

I spend all morning in the ER a couple of weeks ago. I had a horrible nose bleed and the big guns had to be called in. Our local ENT came in and zapped me a few times to get it to stop. We now sleep with a humidifier in the bedroom and my husband says it has even improved my snoring. What a deal! I think I'm sleeping better, too.

To day is Ash Wednesday so I hope most of you will either attend a church service this evening or give some deep thought to the meaning of Lent. What are you giving up for Lent? I think I will give up desserts. I need to get back in the swing at Weight Watchers, too plus go back to Curves. My body is starting to rebel against all the bad things I have been doing to it. Better choices when eating and more exercise are definitely the things I need to work on.

Oh, I got a new phone, a LG enV and it's orange!

God is here, celebrate, fill the world with joy. Nobody got a lot of presents but it was great having all of us together. I suppose next year my daughter will go home with her boyfriend for Christmas. The plows have been out and the neighbors have been snow-blowing and shoveling. It looks like we'll have a white Christmas. Both my son and daughter will be here. My daughter-in-law got her call from London and her interview is Dec. 7 - Pearl Harbor Day - so we're hoping everything will go well. The plan now is for my son to fly over after Christmas and then the 2 of them will fly back here together. Keep the prayers going!

Remember our troops. They are fighting for OUR FREEDOM and they are our HEROES! They need all the prayers we can muster. There just weren't too many kids out and about. I think there are getting to be more and more church activities, school activities and a lot of trunk-or-treat gatherings going on now. We have lot of left-overs so I'll leave all that candy for my husband to eat!

It you get a chance, go to YouTube.com and search for Zucchero. He is an Italian blues singer and is quite good. He's got an interesting look about him, too. He sang with Luciano Pavarotti at some of the benefits for children.

No daughter-in-law here yet. She got her very last round of papers sent in to the American Embassy in London so we're hoping she'll get here soon. Maybe for Christmas? Who knows.

Let's pray for lower oil prices.beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-31140834938287865982007-10-30T21:05:00.000-06:002007-10-30T21:13:11.210-06:00Ready for HalloweenTomorrow is the day for all the witches, ghosts, goblins, etc. to come out in full force and "trick or treat" you to death! Have your candy ready!

If you enjoy music, be sure and google or youtube an Italian singer Zucchero. He has an awesome voice! Most of his music is in Italian but it's still beautiful to listen to. He apparently can speak Italian, Spanish and English quite well. Check him out.

My son and his wife did celebrate their first wedding anniversary together! He flew to England just for the celebration. He got back here on Monday and leaves again on Thursday to go to Puerto Rico for a work-related trip. Keep the prayers going for our daughter-in-law to be called in for her interview at the American Embassy in London and then on to the US.

"A lie gets half way around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." ~Winston Churchillbeckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-78165628553909388212007-10-09T18:35:00.000-06:002007-10-09T20:27:37.111-06:00HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN LENNON!!!!!Today is John Lennon's birthday and he would be 67 years old. Imagine, a Beatle, being that old! Wow, Ringo turned 67 in July. Paul was 65 in June and George is the youngest and he would be 64 until next Feb.

Speaking of the English, we went to see Elton John on Sunday evening. What a concert, it was great beyond words. He played and sang for 2 1/2 hours with no break. He concluded his concert with my favourite: Your Song.

I just found out that my daughter and her fella will probably be here for Christmas! Last year they were in ND. Now if my daughter-in-law can get over here (cut through all the legal red tape) maybe she will be coming here, too. Please say prayers for the American Embassy in London to call her in for her interview so she can move here to be with her husband, my son. Their first anniversary is the end of this month and they would like to be together again by then.

Remember: F. R. O. G. He was only 49 and died of a heart attack. It was very sad.

Fall is definitely in the air and tomorrow we'll do some fall clean-up around our house. My peonies need to be cut down as well as most of my other plants. The leaves are falling so raking will soon come into the picture.

Our weather has been crazy lately. It's cold, it's hot, it just can't make up it's mind! We wear sweatshirts in the morning and peel them off by noon. At least we don't need the air conditioner and can keep our windows open.

I'll leave with a quote from Ward Cleaver who, if you are old enough, is Leave it to Beaver Cleaver's father.--

"Family's one place where you're always wanted."beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7837181230148092234.post-13651826897072374362007-09-10T18:38:00.000-06:002007-09-10T18:50:47.589-06:00Remembering 9-11Where were you on 9-11? I was in Norwich England on the campus of the University of East Anglia. I was in another country and I knew that I would have to fly to get back home. It's very frightening to see your buildings being demolished. BBC TV had very good coverage and we watched intently for several days. Thankfully things had settled down a bit by the time we flew back to the good old USA. I got off the plane in Minneapolis singing "God Bless America" and rejoiced that I was back home safely.

Remember all those that have given their lives to keep us free. Remember all those that are still out there fighting for our freedom. Pray that we all stay strong and support our troops!

Thought for the day:
Why is it that our children can't read a Bible in school, but they can in prison?beckscathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04781920576181191022noreply@blogger.com0
